Just in time for the holidays, Registered Dietitian Lisa Valente at Eating Well magazine offers numerous tips on how to “healthify” your baked treats. One tip: by replacing saturated fats (butter, margarine, or shortening) with heart-healthy oils like canola oil, at-home bakers can eliminate at least five grams of saturated fat per batch of cookies!
Similarly, Newsweek offers tips on preparing holiday mashed potatoes. University of Delaware sports dietitian Sharon Collison suggests that health-conscious cooks use canola oil in place of butter, as “it’s lighter” and “a heart-healthy fat.”
