Preschoolers in the U.S. consume nearly one-third of their total daily calories from solid fats and added sugars, according to the Nestlé Feeding Infants and Toddlers Study (FITS) discussed in a Parents.com blog. The head of Nutrition Science with Nestlé Infant Nutrition explains, “Data from (the study) reveals that, as early as 12 to 24 months, children begin to develop some unhealthy dietary patterns that may contribute to childhood obesity.” She offers healthy habit changes, such as replacing foods high in saturated fat with foods that contain healthier fats, like avocados, fish and those made with canola oil.
