The Hindustan Times of India profiles healthier cooking oils, such as canola. Substituting canola oil for solid fat in recipes eliminates trans fat and reduces saturated fat, says Dr. Aashish Contractor, head of preventive cardiology at the Asian Heart Institute in Mumbai. He also noted that it is free of cholesterol and a good source of vitamins E and K, and omega-3 fat. Dietitian Rekha Sharma adds: "Canola doesn't have a distinct flavour, so it lets the ingredients retain their taste."
