When it comes to maintaining your health, medical drugs may not be the solution, according to a Consumer Reports article in the Washington Post. Making lifestyle changes may lower blood pressure, help with weight loss and reduce inflammation of the arteries without the use of medicines. Simple changes include exercising regularly, moderately drinking alcohol and eating more plants. In addition, the article advises, replace foods rich in saturated fat such as butter with unsaturated oils like canola.
